Stop using religion, ethnicity to divide us, Gov. Bello warns

2 Min Read

Gov. Yahya Bello of Kogi has warned those using religion and ethnicity to divide the people of the state to desist from that.

Bello gave the warning on Sunday in Lokoja while speaking at the inauguration of the state chapter of the Coalition for the All Progressive Congress (APC) Support Groups.

He said that the state had witnessed dirty politics of tribalism and ethnicity, stressed the need for a complete break.

“ Our plan is to usher in a better and greater Kogi where people will see themselves as one irrespective of tribe and religion and ensure that the state rank among the best in Nigeria.

“We should not be distracted; the train is moving , let those who want to distract us leave us alone .
“Henceforth, we will only listen to those who have credibility and character and not those who want to cannibalise Kogi,” he said.

The governor advised members of the coalition to remain steadfast in their support for the party and President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

While inaugurating the state chapter of the coalition, its national Secretary, Mr Peter Okoroafor, urged them to remain supportive of the state government and the party in all its activities.

He said that the group which worked for the success of the party during the 2015 elections, believed in the principles of fairness, equity and Justice.

Alhaji Yakubu Ugwuolawo, the state chairman, who spoke, appealed to parties in the present crisis rocking the state chapter of the APC to bury the hatchet and embrace peace.

“ The prevailing political situation in the state does no one any good as neither the party not the government stands to gain.
“Kogi is in the eye of the storm; we should demonstrate our capacity to sort things out among ourselves,” he said. (NAN)
