The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has urged his fellow politicians to desist from playing politics with the death of Mama HID Awolowo.
While commiserating with the bereaved family at the country home of the Awolowo in Ikenne, Ogun State, he stated that instead of mourning, the deceased and her late husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo should be celebrated because apart from living well, “they also left unforgettable legacies for us and our children’s children, and remain our idols”.
Explaining why the death of Mrs. Awolowo and her late husband should not be politicised, Fayose said all he was trying to say was that the visits should not be a one-off, where politicians would come around and celebrate but leave and never return.
“They only make politics out of this kind of life; that is not the spirit”. The spirit is to stay with this family and keep Baba’s (Awolowo) legacy within Ikenne and beyond Ikenne and in Nigeria. He wants us to be together, he wants us to do things right and he wants us as a Yoruba nation to remain united.”
