“Stop Defending Corrupt Persons In Court” – Youths Boo Ozekhome

Ozekhome

Prominent lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) was on Monday booed by some youths who accused him of defending corrupt persons in court.

According to The Punch, the incident happened as the lawyer tried to make his way into the venue of the 14th Annual Chief Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Lecture at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, at about 1.10pm.

Ozekhome was a discussant at the lecture organised in honour of late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

The youths who blocked his path hurling expletives insisted that he would not be allowed into the lecture hall.

It reportedly took the intervention of another prominent lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), who was also a discussant, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, Adesina Ogunlana, to placate the youths.

It was further reported that the youths had tried to block the inclusion of Ozekhome as a discussant on the ground that he was denigrating the legacy of Fawehinmi by fraternising with and defending treasure looters, using his legal prowess to help them to escape justice.

However, Ozekhome said that he would continue to defend anyone who has corruption cases in court because every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

He boasted that he had already won more than 20 cases against the government, insisting that he believes the government’s anti-corruption is one-sided.
