Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez has told all who care to listen that the playing style of the Los Blancos in Tuesday’s UCL game against Paris Saint Germain should not matter, considering they have booked a place in the knock-out stage of the competition.
The 2014 UEFA Champions League winners were hugely criticised for their lacklustre performance at the Santiago Bernabeu against the entertaining French giants, but Benitez believes critics were unfair.
“We played against PSG, not an easy side.
“Booing? We’ve qualified, are unbeaten and haven’t conceded a goal,” he stated.
Real edged PSG 1-0 with the goal converted by substitute Nacho.
When asked about injury to left back Marcelo, who was substituted in the 33 minute, Benitez said the injury to the Brazilian was due to the number of games he has had to play.
“When you play so many games, the risk of injury increases and that’s what has happened,” he noted.
