The Herald caught up with actress cum filmmaker Stephanie Okereke – Linus in Abuja recently and she revealed exclusively to us why she sees filmmaking as a way to“showcase the things that are happening in our own community.” She also revealed why she chose to focus on Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) in her latest movie Dry.
“It’s true some filmmakers are content with just making funny movies but, aren’t you tired of laughing? I mean, let’s stop deluding ourselves. As a filmmaker, I feel it’s my own duty to showcase the things that are happening in our own community. For cases like this, we just pretend like it doesn’t exist. And as a result, we are not growing. Instead, we should figure out better ways to find solution to our problems. Though all kind of emotions (laughter, joy and sadness) were well expressed in this movie, we owe it to ourselves to depict the things that are happening and see how it can change people’s perception about the situation. That is why we made this movie.”
Stephanie who is pregnant with her first child would be premiering the movie Dry at the Silverbird Cinemas in Abuja tomorrow by 6pm. As usual, The Herald will be bringing you exclusive photos and tidbits from the event.
