Stakeholders urge Nigerians to support fight against corruption

2 Min Read

Stakeholders under the auspices of Project Harmony, a non-governmental organisation, on Sunday urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government’s fight against corruption and mismanagement of the nation’s economy.

This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day National Conference on New Blueprint for Prevention, Resolution and Management of Conflicts.

The communiqué was signed by Mr Hassan Anka of Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Mr Nneka Ikelionwu of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, among others.

It stressed the need for encouragement of grassroots trade union leaders by their apex unions to avoid abuse of trade union immunity.

“We call on all citizens to support the war against corruption, abuse of office and general mismanagement of the economy which are major causes of serious conflicts.

“Critical stakeholders, especially the education sector, should actively support the effort to neutralise the misinformation by looters with a view to securing comprehensive buy-in of citizens for eradication of corruption.’’

It called for the establishment of inter-disciplinary and multi-sectoral Country Research Team (CRT) for comprehensive and sustainable national institutional framework for early resolution of conflicts.

The communiqué stated that stakeholders, individually and collectively, should be committed to early and peaceful resolution of conflicts in their workplaces in the spirit of patriotism and self-preservation in line with industrial relations.

It called for the establishment of conflict resolution centres in tertiary institutions with designated competent desk officers.

The communiqué also advocated inauguration of Multi-Stakeholder Harmony Action Committees in tertiary institutions for pro-active intervention to prevent avoidable conflicts.

According to the communiqué, this will help to resolve unavoidable conflicts and prevent them from escalating, and to supervise the operations of Conflict Resolution Centres. (NAN)
