Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has warned against an impending religious war in the country which he said could be triggered by the incessant religious crisis happening in Nigeria today.

Speaking in Osogbo yesterday at a press conference for an upcoming three day colloquium set up by Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU) tagged, ‘All Comers Colloquium’, and themed: ‘Fundamental Imperatives of Cohabitation: Faith and Secularism’.

The event geared to bring Christians, Muslims and Traditionalists together to discuss ways pf preventing religious war in the country is being supported by the Osun state government.

Soyinka represented by Prof. Wale Adeniran said, “I pray this does not happen because this may lead to disintegration of Nigeria as no nation in the world has ever fought a religious war and remained the same.

“Religious crisis in Nigeria today is assuming a dangerous dimension. The secularity of Nigeria is very clear. There is no ambiguity about it. Should religion be allowed to really have impact on governance? What is important and should be paramount is who you are and not your religion. Religion should not be brought into  governance.”

He blamed political leaders for using religious lines to divide the country for their own selfish interest.
