Omoyele Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters who is currently in detention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has rejected the offer of Clergyman, Apostle Johnson Suleman to stand as surety for him, in order to meet his bail condition.
The founder of Sahara Reporters, was arrested by the Department of Security Services on August 3, for alleged treason after calling for a protest tagged #RevolutionNow.
The Herald earlier reported that Apostle Johnson Suleman, President of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide offered to bail Sowore in spite of the fact that the Human Rights Activist had hurt him several times in the past.
However, Inibehe Effiong, a representative of Sowore’s legal team has rejected the offer. According to him, Johnson Suleman was not an eligible Surety candidate for the detained Publisher.
He said the conditions of Sowore’s bail stipulates the Surety must be resident in Abuja. The Clergyman, on the other hand, resides in Port Harcourt.
He also explained there was a conflict of interest as Sowore in 2016 accused the Omega Ministries Apostle of having extra-marital affairs with a certain lady, Stephanie Otobo.
“So, we are turning it down and we are not even considering it. The way the Federal Government politicized the matter, made it difficult for the bail conditions to be met. But we are in the process of perfecting the bail“
The Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation had charged Sowore to court on charges of treasonable felony amongst others, after the DSS had detained him for calling for a revolution through a protest which was interpreted to amount to toppling the Buhari government and insulting the person of the President.
