Ten persons abducted from their farms in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State on Saturday have yet to regain their freedom 24 hours later, Senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani has said.

He disclosed this in a tweet on Sunday afternoon, noting that the incident occurred in Kuriga Village along the Kaduna-Lagos Road.

The senator appealed to the authorities to swing into action to ensure the safe return of the abductees.

Sani wrote, “Yesterday, ten people were kidnapped in their farms by bandits in Kuriga village, Chikun LG, along Kaduna-Lagos road.

“They are still in the hands of their abductors.

“I appeal to the authorities concerned to intensify efforts to secure their release.”

Kaduna State has been a hotbed of unrest in recent times.

President of Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU), Jonathan Asake noted that 400 lives have been lost and 104 communities affected in seven months in the volatile region.

“Figures so far indicate that over 104 communities in four local governments, namely; Kajuru, Chukun, Kaura and Zango Kataf, have been displaced. We are still compiling the number of the deaths in these locations.

“The figure we got as at two weeks ago indicated that over 400 were killed between January and July,” Asake told The Sun over the weekend.
