The South Korean government has said that all is set to dispatch 340 teachers and university students to 16 developing countries in the latter half of this year to carry out educational programs.

The Ministry of Education and the National Institute for International Education (NIID) said on Thursday in Seoul that the 140 teachers would be stationed abroad for more than one year, while 200 trainees attending to local teachers’ colleges would stay for a shorter period.

It said further that 133 reserves and active teachers would give classes on such topics as Mathematics, Korean language, Science and Computer Science.

It added that seven retired teachers would serve as advisors at the local educational organisations.

The ministry said that teacher trainees, among them would conduct primary education programs and help take care of disadvantaged people in nine countries to include Tanzania, East Timor, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Nepal and the Philippines.

According to the Ministry of Education, the number of participants for this year would be the largest since the program was initiated in 2013.

It indicated that South Korea has sent an average of 20 teachers every year until last year, but increased the numbers this year on the request from the developing countries.
