Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says it is the right of the South-East to develop along with other parts of the country.
Osinbajo said this on Friday in Enugu during the opening of the governorship campaign office of the Enugu State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Sen. Ayogu Eze.
He said that the saying in some quarters that President Buhari had disdain for the South-East was untrue and misplaced.
Osinbajo said that it was the right of the South-East to get good governance and develop evenly with other parts of the country, adding that establishing infrastructure in the zone was not a favour.
The vice president said that the Federal Government was committed to completing all ongoing projects in the zone, including the Second Niger Bridge.
He regretted that successive administrations in the country could not complete various contracts which they awarded.
“Our commitment is that, we will not steal the resources of the state. Previous administrations awarded contracts but nothing happened,” he said.
Osibanjo said that the APC administration was led by a new energy and spirit to deliver on its mandates, adding that such would ensure its victory in the 2019 general elections.
The vice president, who also said that the administration would deliver on all its mandates, urged the people of the state, “your support for the APC must increase day by day.”
Earlier, Eze said that South-East would give the needed support to President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election.
He urged the president to discountenance the antics of some people in the zone who claimed to have endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governorship candidate said that such persons spoke for themselves and not for the region, adding that “Our people have not met to endorse anybody. These are people speaking for themselves.“
Eze said that the people of South-East were poised to give the APC administration over 90 per cent of their mandate, pointing out that the president had done so well for the people.
The Enugu West Senatorial candidate of the party, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, described the reception accorded the vice president as unprecedented, as an honor for the Buhari-led administration and an acceptance of the president.
She said that for members of the PDP and the APC to have come out en masse to receive the vice president spoke volumes.
Ibekaku-Nwagwu assured that the people of the state would reward the gesture of the president during the presidential election. (NAN)
