Sophia Momodu, the first baby mama of Afrobeats star Davido, has refuted claims that she has denied the singer access to their daughter, Imade. This clarification comes amidst reports that Davido has filed a lawsuit seeking custody of the child.

In a statement issued through her legal representatives, Momodu asserted that it was Davido who chose not to see their daughter since July 2022. She emphasized that she has been solely responsible for Imade’s upbringing over the past two years, while Davido has been posting pictures of Imade on social media to create a false impression of being a supportive and active father.

“David has not seen their daughter since 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions such as her birthday or Christmas for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her. Despite this, David posts images of her on social media to falsely portray himself as a supportive and active father,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed that Davido has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter since July 2022, leaving her school fees unpaid. The school had to contact Davido multiple times regarding the fees for the 2021/2022 school term and January 2023, but received no response. Legal intervention in February 2023 led to Davido’s father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke, eventually settling the outstanding fees. Despite this, Momodu maintains that the most crucial support Davido can provide is his presence and emotional support.

“Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse,” the statement concluded.
