At least seven members of the Lake Chad basin exploration team who were kidnapped by Boko Haram have been freed, according to reports.
The team of explorers comprising, NNPC staff, academics and Civilian JTF members were abducted by Boko Haram yesterday.
Soldiers reportedly engaged the insurgents in a gun duel, after which they were able to rescue several members of the exploration team including two NNPC staff, four civilian JTF members and a University of Maiduguri staff.
Several boko haram insurgents were reportedly killed in the attack.
Boko Haram had ambushed the team of scientists yesterday near Jibi Village in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno.
It has yet to be ascertained how many members of the crude oil exploration team still remain in captive.
