Solari Won’t Last Long At Real Madrid- Maradona

2 Min Read

Former Argentina coach, Diego Maradona, has weighed in on the appointment of Santiago Solari as the manager of Real Madrid till 2021.

The Los Blancos fired Julen Lopetegui earlier this month and Solari who was until then managing Castilla, stepped into the role on a temporary basis.

He is unbeaten so far.

Speaking to Marca, the Argentine legend feels like the Madrid coach won’t be around for long

“I would only say that in both cases that they don’t have enough backing for both teams,”

“However, if they were put there then it was because they had the backing of the Argentina federation president and the Real Madrid president, but I don’t think they will be around for long.

“Coaches have a life-span and theirs will not be too long.”

Madrid already have experience bringing up managers from Castilla to become head coach at the club, Zinedine Zidane did it and it turned out pretty well, so well in fact, that the team won back to back Champions League titles for 3 seasons in a record that will be hard to emulate.

Solari will be hoping to have some of that Zidane juice as he dispatches his duties

Maradona added: “It is different when you talk about lifespans if you are called Zidane compared to Scaloni or Solari,”

When asked if he would have loved the Madrid job for himself, he replied: “I would have loved it,

“I have big enough shoulders for it but things didn’t work out that way. Now I am at Dorados and I am happy.”
