Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambwal has revealed that his administration is ready to introduce the state’s version of the National Health insurance Scheme (NHIS) so as to enable citizens of the state to enjoy healthcare services.
Tambuwal said this when he received officials of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Sokoto.
The governor explained that consultations on the position of Islam on health insurance would be undertaken with religious scholars and legal experts before the introduction of the health insurance scheme.
He also added that some aspects of the state’s laws will be amended to accommodate the scheme.
NHIS acting executive secretary, Mr Olufemi Akingabade while addressing the governor said they were in the state to intimate the governor on some of their plans and seek government’s support.
