The Sokoto State Government has earmarked N290 million for the purchase of 10 fire engines for the state Fire Service Department.
The state Commissioner of Home Affairs, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, made this known on Monday at a ministerial briefing in Sokoto.
Achida gave the assurance that the government would give priority attention to providing modern firefighting tools for the department to ensure efficiency.
He said that the government was committed to protecting lives and property of the citizens, noting that it had established additional eight fire stations in the metropolis.
According to him, the stations are Mana, Karama, Tsohuwa Kasuwa, Sabuwar Kasuwa, Runji Sambo, More, Bado and Mana Baba.
The commissioner said that the government had also spent about N220 million on reconstructing the Kofar Taramiya Fire Station in the Sokoto metropolis.
He added that the Fire Service Department had repaired two water tankers used for firefighting. (NAN)
