Sokoto State Government says it had awarded a N246 million contract for the rehabilitation of 39 boreholes, as well as the construction of a new one at the Assare Water Scheme.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Arzika Tureta, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Thursday.
Tureta said that, the state government had already made a 30 per cent advance payment to the contracting firm, Great Northern International Ltd.
He stated that, the project is expected to be completed in the next three months,” everything being equal.”
Tureta added:” The ministry had last Tuesday handed over the site to the firm.
”We have also attached Water Engineers to the site to ensure the execution of the project on schedule and according to specifications.”
The Commissioner further explained that, the project would provide additional 40 millions gallons of water per day to residents when completed.
Tureta added that, adequate boreholes were provided to supplement water supply in Sokoto city and its environs, pending the completion of the project.
He appealed to the residents to exercise patience until the project is completed. (NAN)
