Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, known by fans as Simi, recently spoke with African Folder about her success in the music industry. While acknowledging her own hard work, Simi emphasized the crucial role played by female artists who came before her.
“There are women who have worked hard to damn the status quo,” Simi said, “So, I won’t give myself much credit than necessary because I also benefitted from other women who came before me.“
Simi, a mother of one, highlighted the sacrifices and struggles of these earlier artists who paved the way for female success in the traditionally male-dominated industry.
Simi’s career began in gospel music before transitioning to secular music in 2014. In a previous interview, she cited a lack of financial viability as the reason for leaving gospel music.
