Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, shared the significant role that the late Indian rapper, Sidhu Moose Wala, played during a period of artistic fatigue.
The acclaimed ‘African Giant’ singer acknowledged that Sidhu Moose Wala became a wellspring of inspiration when he grappled with a sense of musical exhaustion. Burna Boy explained that he was at a point in his musical journey where he felt he had explored every avenue and felt creatively drained. Sidhu Moose Wala’s work and artistry reignited his creative spark, providing him with a fresh perspective.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, United Kingdom, Burna Boy mentioned that he was collaborating on a joint project with Sidhu Moose Wala before the Indian rapper was tragically assassinated in May 2022.
Reflecting on the impact of Sidhu Moose Wala, Burna Boy expressed, “Sidhu Moose Wala was one of the biggest inspirations I had at a time when I felt like I’ve already musically done it all. I felt like I’d exhausted myself musically in my head because I was listening to everything and nothing was making sense to me.”
He continued, “I felt like I’ve already spoken about everything. I already said everything . But Sidhu brought another angle to my musicality. He is a legend. The legend of Punjab. There will never be another one.“
