The Katsina Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Abdullahi, on Thursday warned police officers and men in the state to shun corrupt practices or face the consequences.

Abdullahi, gave the warning during the inauguration of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign in the state.

He also flagged-off the distribution of rebranded Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) flyers in different languages.

“Any policeman caught indulging in misconduct or corrupt practices will be severely dealt with.

“The members of the public are free to lodge their complaints with the PCRRU as they have been saddled with the responsibility of responding to complaints.

“The present Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has produced flyers in English, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin English.

“This is to ensure that the public is educated to lodge their complaints against any police misconduct or corrupt practices,’’ he said.

The commissioner stressed that the Inspector-General had promised Nigerians that the police force will be re-structured and re-positioned to be more accountable, responsive, responsible and reliable.

He said this was so as to discharge its duties in accordance with international standard.

Abdullahi said the distribution of the PCRRU flyers was aimed at making the police force more accessible to members of the public.

“The members of the public are free to call the following GSM numbers 08057000001 or 08057000002 to lodge their complaints against any police officer.

“Civilians are free to send text messages through this GSM No. 08057000003 or send message to this twitter handle @police NG_CRU to lodge their complaints,” he said.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Mannir Lamido, commended the police for waging war against corruption.

“My members are facing serious challenges as they have been accused of causing insecurity in some local government areas.

“We hope that with the introduction of this idea of lodging of complaints, my members will get some justice from the Katsina State police command,’’ he said.

NAN reports that members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners, Miyetti Allah, lawyers, traditional and religious leaders, and police officers were present at the event.

Earlier, they had all carried placards at the Katsina Police Headquarters condemning corrupt practices in all its forms as part of the inauguration activities. (NAN)
