“Shoot A Civilian, Go To Jail” – Arase Tells Policemen

1 Min Read

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has warned policemen against indiscriminate use of rifles, while affirming his commitment to ridding the law-enforcement body of bad eggs.

This was disclosed while addressing policemen at the Ogun State Police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

According to the IGP, any policeman who shoots a civilian will be jailed. “Shoot a civilian, go to jail,” he said.

Arase also directed that any policeman who shoots a civilian be charged to court within 24 hours of arrest.

He equally warned state commissioners against sending men with psychological problems that could impede their judgment on assignment.

Furthermore, the IG warned policemen on escort duty to refrain from using horse whip (also known as koboko) on hapless Nigerians. “Nigerians are not animals,” he quipped.

Affirming his commitment to the welfare of policemen, Arase said that the police had concluded plans to build 25,000-unit post-retirement housing scheme for policemen across the nation.

The IG urged the State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali to look for a suitable site for the project in the state.
