The body of a 24-year-old Brazilian footballer, Daniel Correa has been discovered in a bush with his genitals cut off.
Correa, who was on loan from Sao Paulo to second-division side Sao Bento, was found dead on Saturday night by people who were walking along the bush part in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, in Brazil’s southern state of Parana.
Local media reported that Correa appeared to have been tortured before he was killed, although the actual cause of death remains unknown.
A police officer quoted by Brazilian media said, “Since the appearance of the body, it was a very violent situation.
“The man had two deep cuts in the neck, his head was almost decapitated and his genitals were cut.”
Before joining Sao Bento from Sao Paulo on loan, Correa played for Cruzeiro, Botafogo, Ponte Preta and Coritiba.
A Sao Paulo club statement read, “The Sao Paulo football club deeply regrets the death of midfielder Daniel Correa Freitas.
“The club sympathises and pays condolences to the athlete’s family.”
