The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has disclosed that controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, was not involved in securing the release of the school pupils abducted from Kuriga village in Chikun local government area of the State.
Sani disclosed this on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme.
He said that although Gumi offered to negotiate with the abductors, the cleric was not involved in the release.
The governor had on Sunday confirmed the release of the pupils, who were abducted on March 7.
The governor further disclosed that 137 pupils, and not 287 as previously reported, were abducted.
Sani also dismissed reports that ransom was paid to secure the release of the children.
He said, “All those speculations you are hearing today are figment of some people’s imagination.
“I can tell you that without any fear of contradiction. There was nothing like Gumi in this operation. I can tell you. I won’t undermine the efforts of our Armed Forces.”
