Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Shenu Sani, has revealed what will happen to sponsors of deadly gangs operating in the state.

Sani said this while reacting to a Daily Trust story: Inside Kaduna’s deadly gang wars published on Saturday.

According to the story, youths between the ages of 16 to 21 band into gangs and, armed with dangerous weapons, perpetrate all manners of atrocities including armed robbery, intra- and inter-gang violence, harassment and intimidation of residents and unprovoked attacks on passersby and community members.

The most popular among the criminal gangs are said to be the Sara-Suka (Hausa for ‘Hack-Stab’) or Yan Shara (Hausa for ‘Sweepers’), while gang activities are widespread in such communities as Tudun Wada, Rigasa, Nasarawa, Unguwar Mu’azu, Zango, Jos Road, Tudun Nufawa, Sabon Gari, Unguwar Sanusi, and others.

In his reaction via his Facebook and Twitter pages on Thursday morning, Sani said, “Daily Trust of last saturday carried the full story of the reality of inter gang violence in Kaduna state today. The political forces aiding and benefitting from the killings of poor people and their children in Kaduna should be ready for repercussions of their evil acts in the near future. If the gangs and their backers enjoy protection today, tomorrow the story will be different.”

He added, “Kaduna state is as unsafe as Benue,Zamfara and Taraba states. Birnin Gwari bothering Zamfara and Niger state is controlled by heavily armed bandits or Herdsmen who are killing both soldiers and civilians. Kidnaping & killing is a daily occurrence. Anything short of this is a lie.”
