Shehu Sani reveals 5 people that crippled Nigeria’s refineries

2 Min Read
Sen. Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has revealed those that conspired to cripple Nigeria’s petroleum refineries.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, made the revelation in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Sunday.

This is just as support staff members of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the Warri Refinery have been protesting over unfavourable conditions of service.

In a shocking move on Friday, the workers put a coffin at the main entrance of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, while demanding among other things that they be converted into full staff members of the NNPC.

According to Sani, those that turned Nigeria into a nation dependent on importation of refined petroleum products, despite being a major crude oil producing nation, fall into five categories.

He said, “The refineries are crippled by five categories of people; those who want them sold, those who want to buy them, those who import, those who benefits from the importation of petroleum products and the Turn around maintenance gang”.

The NNPC has four major refineries with combined installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day.

In May 2018, PREMIUM TIMES reported that despite the huge resources expended on Turn Around Maintenance, none of Nigeria’s four refineries worked up to 50 per cent of their capacity at any time during 2017, according to official figures from the state oil firm, NNPC.
