A journalist and writer, Gimba Kakanda has condemned the reported sharing of iPhone 12 pro max, iPads and other expensive items as souvenirs at the wedding of Yusuf, son of President Muhammadu Buhari, to Zahra, the daughter of Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado-Bayero.
He stated this in a Facebook post on Monday.
The couple’s wedding Fatiha took place on Friday at the palace of the Emir of Bichi and was graced by the creme of the Nigerian political space.
This was followed by a luncheon at the Old Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.

Reacting, Kakanda wrote, “It’s not a crime to hold an opulent wedding, but common sense demands sensitivity to the plight of the people when you hold a public office, and specially when you’ve governed quite poorly.
“Sharing iPhone 12s and iPads as souvenirs at Yusuf Buhari’s wedding is one bad optics, no matter who funded the acquisition of the devices.
“There’s a responsibility that should come with holding public offices, and it’s even more desirable in country this broken.
