The National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), a federal government agency, in partnership with other organizations has launched its Sexual Offenders Register in Nigeria.
According to the Nation’s news report in its publication on Tuesday, November 26, the register will detail the pictures and particulars of convicted sexual offenders.
It will also make provisions for unconvicted offenders.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, speaking at the event on Monday in Abuja said that it is difficult to ascertain the exact figure of cases of sexual abuse, as most times, victims are usually shamed and called liars whenever they come forward.

The Vice President, who was represented by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Parmanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Dayo Apata, urged Nigerians to take steps in eradicating sexual abuse which includes eradicating degrading references to women and also encouraged women to boldly come forward whenever they get victimized sexually.
