Seun Kuti Blasts Nigerian Government for Lack of Investment in Sports

Famous singer, Seun Kuti, has criticized the Nigerian government for not investing in sports, leading to the country’s poor performance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In a viral video, Seun highlighted that Nigeria only participated in sporting events that require minimal investment.

“We only competed in sports that didn’t need investment. We didn’t participate in sports that require equipment like rackets, basketball courts, and nets. We only did track and field events because it’s easy to do running,” Seun said.

Seun emphasized that Nigeria has talented athletes, but they are unable to develop their skills due to lack of investment. He also noted that many Nigerians with talent are forced to represent other countries.

“Nigerians are unable to enjoy their children’s talents. I saw a lot of people with Nigerian sounding names doing incredible things for other countries. If we invested in sports, we could have produced great athletes like Simone Biles,” Seun added.

Seun’s comments highlight the need for investment in sports infrastructure and training programs to develop Nigeria’s athletic talent.
