In a bid to ease vehicular movement, the Lagos State Government has commenced maintenance work on the bad options of the Mowo-Ikoga Road in Badagry Local Government Area.

The maintenance work commenced on Monday.

Deputy Chief Whip and Member representing Badagry Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Setonji David inspected the road on Sunday and spoke exclusively with Badagry Updates on Wednesday.

Hon. Setonji, who defied torrential rainfall to inspect the road, noted that he is in the state assembly to represent his constituents and would do so whether it is convenient or not.

The lawmaker said that Ikoga is a major community in Badagry and the road needed urgent attention, hence his decision to push for the project, which is being executed through direct labour by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC).

“Mowo-Ikoga Road has been a very good road for years but it started to deteriorate over a period of time and we’ve been pushing for maintenance. Unfortunately for us, it got damaged completely, and that’s the only means of traversing between Mowo and Ikoga, going to Agoloto in Ogun State. There are so many communities relying on that road.

“We had no choice but to come up with something urgent, at least to put up a sort of palliative for that road to be motorable, pending the time the state government will come up with the major solution,” he said.

On the duration of the project, the lawmaker said, “It’s continuous maintenance because it’s a long stretch. They have been there since Monday and will be there throughout this week to make sure that the road is motorable pending the final solution.”

On cost of the project, Hon. Setonji said, “Things are very expensive now and it’s a lot of money, but we have no choice. We’ve representing the people and their lives matter more than money. Even though it is very important, cost is secondary when it is about provision of social amenities for the people. My concern is for us to bring succour to our people.”

He urged those affected by the maintenance work to exercise patience, saying it is meant to ameliorate their suffering.
