World number 1, Serena Willians, is through to the fourth round of the the Australian Open. This comes as no surprise, as she has been tipped to win the tournament.
Serena’s 6-1, 6-1 victory over 18 year-old Kasatkina took just 44 minutes, the shortest match so far at this year’s Australian Open.
“Everything I’ve been trying to work on was kind of clicking today,” Williams said. “I thought I played pretty well in the other matches. My first match I thought I gave a great effort. My second match I thought, under the circumstances, I thought I played well. Hopefully with each match I can just do better.”
Serena will play 58th-ranked Margarita Gasparyan in the fourth round. The two have
played once before, when Serena beat her the first round at Wimbledon last summer. And it was only two sets.
Elsewhere in the male category, Novak Djokovic defeated Andreas Seppi to cement his place in the fourth round.
The 28-year old made sure he did not fall victim to the Italian, overcoming strong resistance to prevail 6-1, 7-5, 7-6(6) on Margaret Court Arena.
Djokovic will face World No. 15, Simon, in the fourth round. The two have met 10 times, with Djokovic having lost just once.
