Valentine’s Day is a day set aside for the celebration of love all over the globe, and it is marked every February 14.
But for the family of Assistant Commissioner of Police Osung Ekpo, this year’s Valentine’s Day is a day that has etched a memory of sorrow in their lives.
The illustrious officer, who leads the Area K Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, drowned in a swimming pool at a popular hotel in Ajah area of the state, where he had gone with some friends to celebrate the season.
While details of the circumstances surrounding the police officer’s death cannot be established at the moment, his death was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Opeyemi Badmus.
In a text message to The News, the PRO said: “We lost him to the cold hands of death while he was swimming in a pool yesterday night. The command is mourning this indefatigable officer. May his gallant soul rest in perfect peace.”
Witnesses said that he was taken out from the pool and rushed to a nearby hospital, but he died few minutes after.
