A captain in the Nigerian Army has shot himself dead in a military hospital.
According to reports, the captain had been fighting Boko Haram terrorists in Mafa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno when he was sent to the 7 Division Medical Centre in Maiduguri for treatment.
He shot himself in the stomach on June 18 while still at the facility.
The captain, whose name has not been disclosed because his family might not have been informed, was said to have collected his gun from the Armoury that same day.
He reportedly collected the rifle with explanation that he wanted to return to Mafa LGA to rejoin his colleagues.
But he turned the gun on himself after threatening to shoot a storekeeper at the Medical Centre Armoury who took to his heels.
Before being drafted to combat Boko Haram in the North East, the captain was with the Nigerian Army 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin.
