Senators Urge Governors to Abide by Rule of Law

2 Min Read

The Senate during its plenary session on Tuesday congratulated President Mohammadu Buhari and Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on their successful inauguration and also urged their colleagues who been elected governors all over the country to abide with rule of law.

These resolutions of the senate were occasioned by a motion sponsored by Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba and supported by 101 other senators.

Ndoma-Egba said “For the first time in the history of this country, we discovered that the Presidential election is not before any tribunal, I think that is a milestone in our democratic process and we must acknowledge that it is a mark of statesmanship and a demonstration of the acceptance of the will of the people because election is not done by just one individual. Election is done by all of us who are members of the various constituencies.

“It is not just enough to congratulate President Buhari, I think we should also congratulate the former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, who willingly conceded defeat and followed the announcement with a telephone call to President Buhari and also appealed to his members to accept that as the verdict from the people.”

Mark also commented on the attitude of Nigerians to the victory of the All Progressives Congress saying that his convoy was attacked during the inauguration.

The Former legislators who are now governors include the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto State Governor); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Ben Ayade (Cross River); Bindo Jibrilla (Adamawa), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Aminu Masari (Katsina).
