The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has urged the Code of Conduct Bureau to publish all declaration of assets by public officials since 1999.
In a Facebook Post, Sani said this will enable the public to form transparent vigilante groups that will monitor the wealth acquisition of public officials while in office.
The post read “The law allows public office holders the privilege to declare their assets in confidence at the CCB but it does not bar the CCB from making public all the declaration made by public office holders.
“The CCB should go ahead and publish all declaration made by public office holders from 1999 to date as empowered by the freedom of information act. This will enable the masses to form ‘Transparency vigilante groups’ and move around to verify claims and depositions made, to compliment the manpower deficiency of the CCB.
“The masses deserve to know the material worth of all their elected and appointed public office holders. Every public office holder must come to equity with clean or at least not dirty hand. Nigerians must demand full disclosure from the CCB.
“President Muhammadu Buhari, by his public declaration, has set a high moral standard that must be abided by those who particularly lay claim to the change agenda.”
