The Senator-elect representing Bauchi South senatorial district, Malam Ali Wakili is advocating for the removal oil subsidy in Nigeria.
The Senator-elect who was speaking at the Correspondents’ Chapel forum in Bauchi said the poor masses were not benefiting from the huge sums of money used to subsidize the product.
Wakili who lamented the recent fuel scarcity in the country argued that there was nowhere outside Abuja or in any state where currently that one could buy fuel for less than N120:00.
According to Wakili, only few individuals had hijacked the benefits from the subsidization.
He equally emphasized for the zoning of the position of the senate deputy president as well as that of the seat of the Speaker House of Representative to the North East.
The Senator- elect decried that the North east region is the most poverty ravaged zone in the country saying the region should be compensated for its loses to insurgency.
Wakili endorsed the candidature of Senator Bukola Saraki for the senate president in the 8th Assembly.
He said “The issue of National Assembly leadership is about integrity, competence, discipline and leadership skills and not about fixing of candidates just for mere horse-trading”.
“Our stand is about electing a senator, who eventually becomes the chairman of National Assembly and relates with the executive on behalf of Nigerians, fellow Senators and the National Assembly as an institution.
“Furthermore, leadership of National Assembly is about the Senator, who has the wherewithal to stabilize the legislative institution, working with the executive and judicial arm of government to be effective and perform to their optimal capacity” he said.
