The Senate has passed a motion for the re-introduction of toll gates on all federal roads in Nigeria.
The motion was moved by Senator Suleiman Nazi, who is representing the Bauchi North Senatorial District,
Federal toll gates were created as a form of road pricing to help implement road maintenance and recoup the costs of constructing roads.
The motion is titled, “Need for the re-establishment of Toll Gates on our federal highways” and it was passed during today’s plenary.
Many have criticized the existence of toll gates attributing it to a form of extortion, time wastage and the excessive cost of the toll operators.
