Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has warned Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu against relying on the police for his protection.
Fayose, a fierce critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, made this known while reacting to Wednesday’s attack on the Senate by hoodlums sponsored by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, during which the mace was stolen.
The governor spoke at the opening ceremony of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party on Thursday.
He wondered how thugs could find their way into the National Assembly chambers despite the high level of security presence in the complex.
Fayose said the incident proved that no one is safe, and called on Ekweremadu not to rely on the police, saying they could conspire against him.
Facing the Deputy Senate President, Fayose said, “Take your security seriously. Don’t rely on the Nigerian police so that they don’t collude against you.”
Ekweremadu in his response said he had met the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, over the invasion of the Senate.
He wondered how the hoodlums beat the security personnel in the area to invade and escape from the National Assembly with the mace.
