The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has decried the incessant killings in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.
He said “mass burial has become a daily ritual” in the area.
Unknown assailants had invaded Gwaska village in the council around 2.30pm on Saturday, killing about 45 persons.
The attack occurred barely 48 hours after the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian army, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Mohammed, visited the area.
It occurred barely a week after local miners in Janruwa village in the same LGA were slaughtered.
Speaking on Sunday, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai promised that a battalion of the Nigerian Army would be permanently stationed there to forestall further attacks.
Also speaking via a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, Sen. Sani said, “Again and again, I will continue to raise the tragic situation of Birnin Gwari on the floor of the senate until it touches the conscience of those responsible for its security to prioritize human lives over 2019 politics.Mass Burial has become ‘a daily ritual’ in Birnin Gwari. We must admit the fact that the police and the army have nothing much to work with to enable them confront the danger and the superior fire power of the armed bandits.”
