Security: Police in Enugu to carry out aerial surveillance — Spokesman

The Police in Enugu State said on Monday it would carry out aerial surveillance to ensure security in the area.

Mr Ebere Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that police helicopters would be deployed after due intelligence gathering on crime.

Amaraizu was speaking against the backdrop of views of residents of the state that the state-government funded heliport project commissioned some years ago was not functional.

He explained that the heliport and its three helicopters are functional and “ready to be deployed when needed’’.

“Before you lift a helicopter, you must have gotten enough intelligence – you have a particular area to be raided.

“You have an area of operation and all that and you can now put a lot of things together and come out.

“You don’t run like ordinary vehicles – police pilots that man the heliport and all that.’’

The PPRO assured the people of the state of a more robust community-based policing.

NAN recalls that a cross section of residents of the state have been complaining that although millions of naira were used to set up the heliport, it has not been put to appropriate use to provide security in the state. (NAN)
