A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday ordered that a security guard, Isiaku Ibrahim, be given six strokes of the cane for stealing cavort iron.
Ibrahim, 23, a security guard attached to Citec Garden, Abuja, was sentenced for criminal trespass and theft, offences he admitted committing.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, said that the punishment would have been severe if he had not pleaded guilty and saved the court the pains of long prosecution.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Okagha Ijeoma, had told the court that one Dangana Agashu, a security guard attached to Citec Estate, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station on May 21.
Ijeoma told the court that on the same date, at about 2: 30 p.m. the convict criminally went into Citec Estate and stole one cavort iron valued yet unknown.
She said that the convict, who was apprehended and handed over to the police, admitted committing the offences.
Ijeoma added that during police investigations, the stolen cavort iron was recovered from the convict.
The prosecutor said the action violated Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
