Security guard in court for allegedly stealing N2m

A 35-year-old security guard, Godfirst Ikechukwu, who police said broke into a  house he was guarding and stole property valued at two million Naira, was on Friday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Police charged Ikechukwu with four counts of conspiracy, breaking and entry, stealing and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, SP Thomas Nurudeen,  told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit the offence on Nov 1, at 11. 50 p.m. at No. 35, Raymond str., Sabo, Yaba area of Lagos.

Nurudeen said that Ikechukwu broke and entered the house of the complainant, Mr Charles Nzeaka; same house he was on duty to secure, with some accomplices.

The prosecutor said the accused the accused also stole two phones and jewelries.

Nurudeen said the offence contravened ye provisions of  Sections 251, 280 (1), 306 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised).

The accused, however, plead not-guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Mrs K.B. Ayeye, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ayeye ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, show two years evidence of tax payment to Lagos Government and be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned until Jan 29, 2019 for further hearing.(NAN)
