A Security Expert, Mr Roy Okhidivbie, on Saturday in Lagos, urged Nigerians to support the military in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
Okhidivbie, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that this became imperative to restore peace and stability to the North Eastern part of the country.
According to him, Nigerians have responsibility to support the military personnel because these criminals live with us.
“The kidnappers or militants that have camps in the bushes come to our markets to buy food items in bulk.
“They use our people to carry it to the bush but nobody reports such incidents.
“They also have medical challenges and doctors go there to treat them in the bush but nobody reports it.
“They also pass through communities and we see them but nobody reports it,’’ he told NAN.
The expert said that many Nigerians were afraid to report the situation around them to the government because of their level of education.
“This is why we encourage private security outfit to have a good relationship with the communities.
“There should be a synergy between the security agencies and the communities to transmit their fears, observations and findings to the appropriate arm of government, “ he said.
NAN reports that Okhidivbie, had at the ongoing training for officers of the Nigerian Army in Lagos, said that there was need for private securities to assist in the fight against insurgency.
He said that the private security companies could help through information dissemination and effective collaboration between the people and the government.
