Saweetie Set To Make Acting Debut On Grown-ish

2 Min Read

American singer, Saweetie is set to make her acting debut on Grown-ish this month.

The rapper will make an appearance when the show returns from its mid-season break on January 21.

For this episode, Saweetie will play a demanding rapper, Indigo, who orders main character Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi), to handle a very stressful situation.

In the preview clip, Indigo demands a wardrobe change while on set of a music video. When Zoey, who is also Joey’s stylist, tells her that she doesn’t have any other options besides swimsuits, Indigo is not willing to take no for an answer. “Yes, you do,” she says.

Saweetie admits she was nervous about taking on the multi-episode role, but Shahidi helped calm her nerves. “I would ask her for advice, and she was so easy to work with, so it was an honor and a pleasure to work by with her. I know she’s gonna continue to do big and great things,” she told EW.

“Even if I would mess up sometimes, she was just so helpful. It’s always nice to work with someone who wants you to do as good as them. What I will say is that she’s such a team player. She was like hyping me up and gave me the motivation, so it was fun to work with her.”

This won’t be the last time Saweetie graces Hollywood. The rapper told EW that she’s interested in making acting part of her artistry.

“I could definitely see myself having a show like that or just doing more guest-star roles, or even doing a movie,” she said.

“I think it’s art. It’s fun to step outside my comfort zone and it allows me to just explore my creative side.”
