Officers of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have reportedly abducted a woman at Ketu Bus stop area of Lagos for apparently unknown reasons.
According to the lady, she went out to make her hair and decided to make a withdrawal to pay for same hair at the Skye Bank in the area. At this the SARS officers approached her and escorted her to their bus parked not too far away where she was forced to get in.
After some argument as to why they arrested her with no plausible explanations, the young lady took to social media to cry for help a she was being driven around. According to her…
“SARS are holding me hostage at Ketu, Ile ile Bus stop for reasons I know nothing about…. They want let me go, someone come through for me…”
When the SARS officials realised that she had called for help they decided to drive her around towards Alapere area of Lagos. Here they robbed her of the money she had withdrawn to pay for her hair and her Ecobank Debit card and proceeded to push her out of the moving bus.; she ended up with a broken leg.
At the time this report was filed, the matter has been taken up by @citizengavel and @segalink on twitter who have been human rights advocates for the defenseless against SARS harassment of young Nigerians; they have helped rescue young Nigerians from the clutches of SARS; especially in Lagos state.
Incidents like this have escalated since 2015 and continue to increase across the country everyday despite protests and complaints. The Police hierarchy continues to deny the constant abuse of human rights and extortion carried out by its SARS officials even in the face of overwhelming evidence
With the deteriorating professionalism of police officers across the country, the Nigerian public has lost confidence in the institution and continue to call for the dissolution of SARS since they have outlived their usefulness; #EndSars.
