Former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has condoled with those who lost loved ones in a boat accident that occurred in Patigo Local Government Area of Kwara State.
No fewer than 100 people were reported drowned after a boat carrying families returning from a wedding sank in a river.
According to the police, the boat was said to be ferrying people in Kwara from a wedding in neighbouring Niger State when it went down.
“So far we have 103 people dead and over 100 rescued from the boat accident,” Kwara State police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi told AFP.
Reacting to the incident, Saraki said, “The tragic boat accident that occurred in the Patigi LGA of Kwara State, is truly devastating. It’s heartbreaking to think that a joyous occasion, like returning from a wedding ceremony, could turn into such an unimaginable calamity.
“My heart goes out to all the families who have lost their loved ones, particularly the father who died alongside his four children.
“I also extend my deepest prayers for a speedy and full recovery to those who sustained injuries.
“May Almighty Allah (SWT) in his infinite strength and grace help the affected families to get through this incredibly difficult time.”
