The Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos has thrown its support behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The March 9 gubernatorial election in Lagos is expected to be a straight battle between Sanwo-Olu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje.
The Igbo apex socio-cultural group made its position known at a stakeholders’ Town Hall Meeting held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday.
The President of Ohanaeze Lagos, Solomon Ogbonna, said that the group took the decision in order to reallign itself with development after the conclusion of the February 23 presidential election.
He explained that Igbo people in Lagos were more interested in seeking out a candidate that can protest their interests rather than fighting.
Ogbonna noted that Sanwo-Olu is a leader that can be trusted to protect the interest of the Igbo people in Lagos, hence the decision to support him.
“Sanwo-Olu is the best thing that can happen to the Igbo in Lagos; he is a God sent to the Igbo.
“We must not waste this opportunity. That is why we must come out en masse on Saturday and vote for him,” he said.
