The Herald recalls that Sanwo-Olu visited the scene of the incident early Monday alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Pipelines and Storage Company Limited (NPSC).

The governor set up a N2 billion emergency relief fund for the Abule-Ado victims and set up a committee headed by Hamzat, with a two-week deadline to submit its report.

No fewer than 20 persons have been reported killed so far and 50 houses destroyed in the Sunday morning incident.

A gas explosion was said to have caused a fire that spread to an NNPC pipeline nearby, triggering a massive fire that consumed many people and property. The casualties included a family of four that was heading to church.

Many residents have been rendered homeless since the incident, Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said on Monday.
