Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi, deposed Emir of Kano, has filed a lawsuit before the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Service, the Attorney-General of Kano State and the Attorney-General of the Federation, challenging his detention and confinement.
The former emir was dethroned by the Kano State Government on Monday, March 9 over insubordination and disrespect to official authorities in the state.

After his dethronement, he was immediately whisked away from his residence in Kano by security operatives and taken to Loko, a town in Nasarawa, after which he was transferred to Awe, another town in Nasarawa.
Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), who led Sanusi’s legal team filed the suit on his behalf, which is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/357/2020 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sanusi prayed the court for an interim order releasing him “from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons.”
