Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has put a stop to the production of its flagship device, the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, following increasing reports of fire incidents.
According to reports, the smartphone which has constituted one of the biggest recall crisis to befall the tech giant has also sprouted security concerns as several airlines have banned the use of the smartphone aboard flight.
Speaking on the latest development, Eric Schiffer, brand strategy expert and chairman of Reputation Management Consultants said: “If the Note 7 is allowed to continue it could lead to the single greatest act of brand self-destruction in the history of modern technology.”
He continued: “Samsung needs to take a giant write-down and cast the Note 7 to the engineering hall of shame next to the Ford Pinto.”
Citing its reason for suspending production of the flagship device, Samsung said it was adjusting shipments of the device to allow for adequate inspections and for stronger quality control.
