The ongoing tug-of-war between Apple and Samsung for smartphone market dominance rages on. According to a report from Bloomberg, the next iteration of Samsung’s flagship handset will arrive by April. A redesign of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will also launch around the same time frame.
Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, said the Galaxy S5 could arrive as early as March. The follow-up to the Gear smartwatch will apparently feature “more advanced functions” and a sleeker design. Back in November, it wasalleged Samsung had only sold 50,000 units of its first Gear smartwatch.
During CES 2014, the Samsung exec also mentioned the company’s interest in regards to eye-scanning technology. “We are studying the possibility but can’t really say whether we will have it or not on the S5,” said Lee.
Samsung showed off a number of products during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, including a new Android-based camera and a first look at the curved Galaxy Round smartphone.
